Dr. Tatiana Novikova
Group Leader — CNRS, École Polytechnique, Institut Polytechnique de Paris
A Fellow of SPIE and Fellow of Optica (former OSA), Dr. Novikova is the leader of the Applied Optics and Polarimetry group at the Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films (LPICM), CNRS, École polytechnique, Institut Polytechnique de Paris. She is also a Courtesy Professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University. She holds an MSc in Applied Mathematics from Moscow State University, a PhD from the Moscow Institute of Mathematical Modelling, and a Habilitation in Physics from the University Paris-Sud. Her research spans optical polarization, Mueller polarimetry, biomedical imaging, polarimetric instrumentation, and computational modelling of electromagnetic wave interactions with structured and random media. Dr. Novikova is a member of the Editorial Board of the SPIE Journal of Biomedical Optics. She is a recipient of the 2020 SPIE G. G. Stokes Award in optical polarization.

Dr. Théotim Lucas
Postdoctoral Researcher
Théotim obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from Sorbonne University (France), with a focus on photoacoustic imaging and the optical characterization of complex materials. His research interests include polarimetry, photoacoustic imaging, optical metrology, light-matter interactions in nanostructured materials, and the development of innovative multimodal imaging techniques.
Sooyong Chae
PhD Student
Chae received a B.Sc. and a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Otago, and a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Physics at the Laboratory of Physical Interfaces and Thin Films, École Polytechnique, under the supervision of Dr. Tatiana Novikova.
Dorotea Nardini
Visiting PhD Student
Dorotea is a second-year PhD student at the European Laboratory for Non-Linear Spectroscopy (LENS) in Florence, Italy, where her research focuses on hyperspectral imaging and light-sheet microscopy for the characterization of human brain tumors. During her stay at LPICM (September–December 2026), she works with Dr. Tatiana Novikova on applying Mueller polarimetry to brain tumor samples, combining polarimetric and hyperspectral information for a more comprehensive sample characterization.
Woochan Na
Intern
Woochan received his B.Sc. in Information Display from Kyung Hee University, Korea, and is currently pursuing a dual Master's degree between Kyung Hee University and École Polytechnique. He worked at the Laboratory of Speciality Optical Solution at Kyung Hee University and is currently affiliated with the Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films at École Polytechnique. His research interests include optical elements, holographic applications, next-generation display optics, LiDAR-based optical information systems, and medical optics.
Nihat Ahmadli
Intern
Nihat holds a B.Sc. in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Istanbul Technical University and is currently pursuing his Master's in Biomedical Engineering at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris as part of the PhD Track Programme. He is interested in the intersection of AI and healthcare, with a particular focus on biomedical imaging, statistical machine learning, and data science.
